Several types of ready-to-eat salads, sushi and spring rolls produced by California-based Fuji Food Products are part of a voluntary recall.

The products were sold at select stores including Trader Joe's, Walgreens and 7-Eleven in 31 states and Washington, D.C.

According to the notice posted on the Food and Drug Administration website, the products have the "potential for product contamination with Listeria monocytogenes." There have been no reported illnesses from the products to date, the notice says.

"As responsible processors of safe, fresh food for nearly 30 years, we are addressing this problem vigorously, and we apologize to those who are affected by it," Fuji Food Products CEO Farrell Hirsch said in a statement. "We will restart operation only after we have eliminated the cause and the FDA certifies that our facility is once again free of possible contamination."

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, exposure to listeria bacteria can cause serious or fatal infections in children, elderly people and those with compromised immune systems. It also can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women. Healthy individuals may experience high fever, severe headaches, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

The FDA found the problem while during a routine inspection of Fuji's Brockton, Massachusetts, facility.

The recalled products were sold or distributed in the following states: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Stores that sold the products are 7-Eleven, Walgreens, Food Lion, Hannaford, Trader Joe’s, Giant Eagle Supermarkets, Porkys, Bozzutos, Supreme Lobster and Superior Foods.

Consumers who purchased any of the products should not eat them and should discard or return them, the recall notice states.
