Tennis regional assignments announced
TOPEKA The Kansas State High School Activities Association announced the 2020 girl’s tennis regional assignments on Wednesday.
The Class 6A-4A regionals will take place on October 10th at their respective locations. Class 3A-2A-1A will be a two-day regional on Oct 9-10.
With COVID-19 restrictions, only four players for each will head to the state tournament this season, instead of the traditional six qualifiers. The limitations are in hopes of helping limit any spread by limiting competitors.
The State Tournaments are scheduled to take place October 16-17 at various places throughout the state. Class 5A will be at Andover High School. Class 4A will be in Topeka, Kansas and Class 3A-2A-1A will be at the Riverside Tennis Complex in Wichita, Kansas.

Andover Central HS, Andover HS, Goddard HS, Goddard-Eisenhower HS, Maize South HS, Wichita-Bishop Carroll HS, Wichita-Kapaun Mt. Carmel HS, Wichita-Northwest HS
Andover and Andover Central will head to the Kapaun Mt. Carmel regional at the Class 5A regional, which will be loaded with talent as KMC, Bishop Carroll, two of the top teams in Class 5A.
The Trojans are led by a group that wants to either match or better their third place at state a year ago.
The Sinclair sisters are the names you recognize. Emma, the senior is 12-2 this season and has spent most of the season playing doubles after playing singles a season ago.
Sarah, the junior, is 10-5 in the singles department.
Freshman Brook Walker has been a nice addition to the rotation as she is 8-3 as a singles players and 3-0 with Emma Sinclair in doubles.
Freshman Anna Jittawait is 13-1 on the season. Her only loss coming with Emma Sinclair at the Andover tournament to the Salina South doubles team who finished 9th at state last season.
For Andover Central, the duo of Hilary Tallman and Grace Scheafer lead the way. The pair is 5-3 together, including winning four in a row after getting their rhythm down.
After playing with Mac Evans earlier in the year, senior Hannah Lee has made the move to play with Elizabeth Kear and they are 6-5 together. They have faced some of the toughest competition in the state, regardless of class.
Anna Strickland will be a singles player to watch for, as she is 9-6 on the season as a singles player. She started the season by losing to two of the top ranked singles players at the Collegiate tournament but has turned it on since. She won the Emporia tournament and took home ninth in the Andover tournament.
Sophomores Reece Solberg and Evans are battling for the other singles position. The two are trying to figure out who's going to be that girl who gets that qualification spot. Evans, who has gone back and forth between singles and doubles is 4-5 in singles and 8-2 in doubles.
Solberg is only 4-6 and has swapped with the competition as well. She is 2-5 singles and 2-1 in doubles, as she paired up with Strickland for the tournament.
BUHLER HS (Saturday, October 10, 2020) Buhler HS Courts, 611 N Main, Buhler - Justin Seuser, Manager
Abilene HS, Buhler HS, Chapman HS, Clay Center Community HS, Concordia HS, El Dorado HS, Hesston HS, Towanda-Circle HS
Both El Dorado and Circle will be in Buhler for their regional. Circle, who finished second at the Collegiate regional last year, will look to pick up the elusive title this season.
They are led by All-State and Class 4A runner-up, Annabelle Adams. Adams is 12-1 on the year, with a loss to Wichita Trinity’s sophomore Isabella Sebits. She is coming off winning the singles tournament at the Hesston tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
The doubles pair of seniors Lanna Chase and Kenzi Gillispie has been almost unstoppable as they are 12-1 together this season. The pair had rolled off to a 12-0 start before dropping a match to Valley Center in Tuesday’s doubles championship.
Adding to the loaded upperclassmen group for Circle is Bridget Lindborg. She is 13-5 on the season as she finished third in Tuesday’s Hesston tournament.
The other doubles for Circle is the pair of Adisyn Cornali and Lauren Madina. The pair is 9-9 on the season. They also finished third in the Hesston #2 doubles group on Tuesday. They started out the season a bit rough, going 2-7 before turning things around. They are 7-2 since.
The El Dorado Wildcats are arguably the youngest tennis team in the county. They only have three seniors on the roster, including Trinity Lawrence who plays doubles with Maya Wade, who is a sophomore. The pair is 7-5 on the season. They have been playing the gauntlet, playing six different state tournament pairs from a year ago.
Junior Ashley Luna has spent hear year at singles, going 7-5. Seen as the No. 2 doubles player, she went 4-0 earlier this year at the El Dorado Invitational.
El Dorado’s second double pair is Jada Chabot and Carlie Karst. The juniors are 5-7 on the season. The pair did pick up a handful of wins at the El Dorado tournament, getting that winning feeling as they head into regionals.
The last singles player is Rylee Marnell-Ball, the sophomore. After a season as the No. 2 singles player, Marnell-Ball has moved into the No. 1 spot and the competition has increased. She is only 6-6 on the year. Her schedule has featured four state qualifers and three medalists from last year.

Douglass is led by the pair of Christy Loughry and Amy Black, both sophomores. They are 7-5 on the season. The doubles team went 3-1 at the El Dorado tournament and are showing nice promise as the they head into the home stretch of the season.
Lauren Henderson and Savannah Edmonds are the other doubles pair for the Bulldogs. They are 4-1 together. With limited matches, they have performed well as their only loss was to the Chaparral doubles team.
Hannah Grimmett, senior and Melissa Lehrmann, junior are the singles players for Douglass. While they have limited games, they have been competitive in their matches.
