On Tuesday morning, it was announced due to complications with COVID-19 at El Dorado, the Friday night game between the two AVCTL-III teams will be canceled.

USD 490 spokesperson Kimberly Koop sad in an official statement: “All we know right now is that the EHS football team has come into contact with a public health exposure. We have not received any information from the health department on when they will be allowed to return to school and activities. As soon as we receive that information, we will post to our website, Facebook, and Twitter the anticipated dates that games will resume. According to KSHSAA guidelines, they have to have a certain number of days of practicing between when they are able to return and when they are able to compete, so that will have to be factored in as well."

El Dorado becomes the fourth Butler County team to have games canceled due to COVID-19. Andover, Andover Central, and Circle all saw their schedule change abruptly due to the pandemic.

The Wildcats are having a solid season, going 2-2 with wins over Labette County and Augusta. A young, but tough team showing how they are improving over last season’s 2-7 record.

The Wildcats will have to wait another year to play McPherson, as El Dorado is 9-23 all-time against McPherson.

On the other side of the coin, McPherson has already rescheduled their game to play at home vs. Leavenworth on Friday night.

The COVID-19 related part of the cancellation could vary well mean the Wildcats will cancel next week’s game with Wellington.

We will update this when there is an official statement from the school and/or district.
