HAYSVILLE, KANSAS – The Andover Trojans dropped their season opener to the Campus Colts on Tuesday night, 47-40.

For Andover, the youth showed early and often as they played multiple freshman and sophomores on a roster that only had two seniors that saw significant minutes last night.

Brooke Walker scored 13 points and Alana Shetlar scored 10 points to lead the Trojans in scoring against Campus. The two freshmen saw early action as Walker caught the start and Shetler came on as the first person off the bench.

Andover led for most of the first half but it wasn’t until the end of the half when the Campus’ Tya Tindall hit a three to send the game into the break deadlocked at 18-all.

Turnovers and some streaky shooting saw Haysville take the lead out of the break. Tindall’s three-point shooting would heat up as she finished with 13 points for the game, with 10 coming in the second half.

Campus built a double digit lead off a turnover by Andover that led to a Analysia Morales layup with 1:18 remaining in the game.

Walker tried to respond with a three to cut it the deficit to seven but Tindall would hit four final free throws to seal the win for Andover.

Senior Mallory Woolston scored eight for the Trojans and Jayda Kelly contributed four points.

Andover shot 25 percent from the field and only 50 percent from the free throw line. They turned it over 17 times on the night.

The Trojans are back at it on Friday as they travel to Wichita Southeast for the GWAL/AVCTL Showdown. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Southeast is 1-1 on the season.

Then, the Trojans will get their rescheduled game against McPherson on Saturday afternoon at Andover High. That tip is scheduled for 3 p.m.
