Eight different Rose Hill Sluggers were named to the Sunflower Collegiate League East All-Star team on Monday. Head coach Jake Jones was rewarded with an appearance as the head coach of the East squad as well.

With their successful season almost wrapping up and eyes moving towards a potential bid into the NBC World Series, which will take place Aug 3-10 in Hutchinson and Wichita, the Sluggers were rewarded with the All-Star selections.

Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Zach Baxley leading the way for the Sluggers at catcher. He leads the league in batting average and is third in total RBIs.

Joining Baxley is Garrett Kocis (Wichita State), who leads the SCL in home runs (9); Adam Theis (Southwestern Oklahoma State) who is top 10 in batting average and steals; Mason Hartman (Pittsburg State) who is fourth in stolen bases; and Hunter Gibson (Wichita State), he’s second in the SCL in batting average, third in hits and second in hit by pitches.

Three pitchers also made it for Rose Hill. Jackson Dietel (Southwestern Oklahoma State), Tanner Olmstead (Southwestern College) and Brian Skillman (Hutch CC) all made their way to the All-Star Game.

Dietel and Olmstead both lead the team with three wins each. Olmstead’s 1.71 ERA is good enough for third in the SCL. Skillman leads the team in strikeouts with 25, while only walking six batters through 21 innings.

Cheney led the way with 14 All-Star selections for the West side. Hutchinson also had nine on the West. The two teams make up 23 of the 28 All-Star spots (82 percent).

The Sluggers head into Monday night’s game with a 21-7 record, with an 18-6 conference record. They have two remaining series before the end of the regular season. They will play Mulvane this week before finishing up against league leading Cheney. The Diamond Dawgs just split with Newton over the weekend.

The 2020 Evergy Sunflower Collegiate League All-Star Game will take place at Eck Stadium in Wichita, Kansas. There will be a home run derby before the contest at 6 p.m. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Tickets for the All-Star Game are only $5 and masks are required within Eck Stadium.
