NBC World Series announces dates and locations
The NBC World Series announced on Friday the 86th annual tournament will take place in two locations this season and will not be using the new Riverfront Stadium.
The NBC World Series will be hosted by Wichita State’s Eck Stadium and Hutchinson’s Hobart-Detter Field from Aug. 3-10.
The tournament, which was in flux until Friday’s announcement, had been looking to secure an extra location for the tournament since the new baseball stadium was off limits. Securing Hobart-Dotter has allowed the tournament continue.
“It’s going to look and feel different this year,” NBC President Kevin Jenks said.
Fans will be asked to sanitize their hands and to wear masks when they are in the ball parks.
The NBC World Series will bring back double elimination to the tournament, giving teams who may lose their tournament opener, a chance to fight back through the loser’s bracket.
Currently, the Seattle Studs are your defending champions after defeating Cheney 5-4 in the Championship Game.
There will be 12 teams invited to the World Series this season, which is down from last season’s 26 teams.
Tickets will be $10 for fans at each location.
There are five leagues that will send their champions to Wichita for the tournament. There will be seven at large teams selected. The field will be announced at a later date.
Currently, Cheney, Hutchinson and Rose Hill have separated themselves in their own league, positioning for an at-large berth.
With only two weeks left in the regular season, the battle for atop the standings is heating up.
