The Augusta boys basketball team traveled to Collegiate on Tuesday night, and came out with a 63-49 win over the Spartans. With the victory, the Orioles have now won seven of their last eight games and are looking like a force to be reckoned with in 4A.

Collegiate scored the first points of the game with a basket by Gabe Fisher, but Augusta responded by going on a 13-0 run over the next six minutes. The Oriole defense allowed just one more field goal in the first half and led 13-4 after one quarter.

The Orioles continued to dominate throughout the second quarter. With one minute remaining in the first half, Augusta senior Corbin Parker flew past his defender with a behind-the-back dribble and found Blake Altenhofen in the corner. Altenhofen drilled the three and gave the Orioles a 31-11 lead. Collegiate scored the final four points of the half, and Augusta led 31-15 at the break. Jaren Jackson scored the first six points of the half for the Orioles, and Augusta continued to outscore the Spartans in the third quarter. After three quarters, Augusta led 49-29.

In the final quarter, Collegiate finally showed some signs of life. Collegiate forward Cole Thornton scored seven straight points, and the Spartans slowly closed the gap. Collegiate was able to make it a 10-point game with 30 seconds left, but never really threatened the Orioles in the final minutes as Augusta earned the 63-49 road victory.

Jaren Jackson led the Orioles with 16 points. Zac Burton finished with 11 points, and Zach Davidson was also in double figures with 10 points.

Augusta is now 11-4 on the season and will host Buhler on Friday, Feb. 8.
