The Augusta boys basketball team Improved to 4-2 after beating El Dorado 51-36 on Friday night at El Dorado High School.

Augusta sophomore Ryan Andrews knocked down a three on the Orioles’ first possession of the game. The Orioles struggled to shoot the three and missed their next seven three-point attempts, but managed to knock down four free throws at the end of the first quarter to take a 11-8 lead after one quarter.

The Oriole defense shut down the Wildcats in the second quarter. Augusta held El Dorado scoreless for the first six minutes of the second quarter, and finally found some rhythm offensively. After missing seven straight three’s the Orioles knocked down three straight three points shots during a 13-0 run. Jaren Jackson knocked down another three at the buzzer to give Augusta a commanding 29-14 lead at the half.

In the second half, the Oriole defense continued to put pressure on the Wildcats, which resulted in several steals and fast-break points for the Orioles. Augusta continued to rely on their aggressive defense for the remainder of the contest as they cruised to a 51-36 road win over their AVCTL-III rival.

Augusta senior Zac Burton finished with 16 points. Jaren Jackson was also in double figures with 11 points.

El Dorado senior Jaren Koehler scored 16, and Cameron Clausing added 12 for the Wildcats.

Augusta will take on McPherson (4-3) at home on Tuesday, Jan. 11 for another AVCTL-III showdown.

El Dorado falls to 1-5 on the season and will travel to Buhler (2-4) on Tuesday.
