Abbee Rhodes signed her letter of intent to Texas Tech University on Thursday and will join the Red Raiders track and field team after graduating this spring. Rhodes has already had an impressive athletic career at Augusta in her first three years. Rhodes helped the Orioles earn a spot in the 4A-I state basketball tournament in the winter, before winning a state championship in the shot put in the spring. Rhodes also took fourth in discus at the state meet. In her sophomore season, Rhodes placed third in the shot put.
When I went to visit [Texas Tech] I was blown away. The campus is beautiful. The coaching staff is very dedicated and the team itself is very close-knit,” said Rhodes.
Before heading to Lubbock, Rhodes wants to make sure to appreciate her final year of high school with her friends and family in Augusta.
“I just want to enjoy it all and take it all in. I’ll be 10 hours away and won’t get to visit very often. I want to be as involved as I can— have fun, but still work hard.”
