The El Dorado, Circle, and Augusta boys cross country teams all finished in the top eight at the 4A state cross country meet in Wamego on Saturday. Buhler was the meet champion with a team score of 47. The defending state champion Circle Thunderbirds earned a second-place finish with a team score of 81. El Dorado placed fourth for the second consecutive season with a score of 122. Augusta finished eighth with a score of 204.
Circle’s Emmet Keller finished 16th, leading the T-Birds with a time of 17:42.7. Eli Jacobson finished two spots back at 18th with a time of 17:46.9. Ryan Derry and Brycen Schoenhofer finished 22nd and 23rd respectively with times of 17:55.4 and 17:57.4. Simeon Keller rounded out the top five, placing 35th with a time of 18:20.7
El Dorado senior Christian Price earned a medal with a tenth-place finish and a time of 17:24.
“He has had a very strong season for us,” said El Dorado coach Dave Herrs.
“If you would have asked me when Christian was a freshman if he would finish in the top ten as a senior, I would have said no. He has been a hard worker for four years and he has continued to improve.”
Augusta’s Brice Helton (11th) and Sawyer Schmidt (20th) also earned top-20 finishes. Helton finished with a time of 17:25.0 and Schmidt finished in 17:47.8.
On the girls side, Circle finished eighth with a score of 208, while Augusta finished 11th with 227. Circle’s Emma Willour was the Thunderbirds top finisher, crossing the finish line in 18th place with a time of 21:19.4. Augusta’s Porsha Zweifel picked up a top-20 finish for the Orioles with a time of 21:30.0, finishing 20th.
The Andover boys team earned a runner-up finish with a score of 89, while Andover Central finished 10th with 230. The Trojans finished with two runners in the top five as Ryan Kinnane took fourth and Asher Moen placed fifth. Kinnane finished with a time of 16:12.4 and Moen finished in 16:19.9. Samuel McDavitt also earned a top-20 finish, placing 16th with a time of 16:36.6
