Andover Central came out on top at Andover District on Friday night as the two Andover teams battled through a low-scoring defensive battle. The 16-14 Jaguar victory marks the first time Central has won the rivalry game since 2015, when they went on to play in the 4A state championship game.

Perhaps the Trojans’ biggest loss of the night was when their sophomore quarterback Eli Fahnestock went down with a leg injury in the first half. Fahnestock is one of the top passers in the state and is also a valuable leader for the Trojans.

Central scored the first points of the game early in the second quarter. The Central defense had Andover backed up near their own goal line. Central linebacker Sam Thomas picked off a pass near the goal line and easily took the ball into the end zone to put the Jaguars up 7-0.

When Central got the ball back on offense, Chase White connected with Xavier Bell for a touchdown pass to put Central up 14-0.

Andover put up a fight, and made it close in the end despite being banged up. A late safety by the Jaguars would be the difference as Central escaped with a 16-14 win.

Central improves to 3-4 on the season and will host Arkansas City (2-5) next Friday to close out the regular season.

Andover falls to 3-4 and will finish the regular season with a trip to Goddard (5-2) next Friday night. Goddard is coming off of a 23-22 overtime loss at Maize South.
