The Flinthills volleyball team finished 4-1 and took second place in their tournament at Flinthills High School on Saturday, Sept. 8.
The Mustangs only lost one set heading into the championship game against Bluestem. The Mustangs were outmatched by the Lions in the championship match, as the Lions came away with a tournament championship by a score of 25-13, 25-10.
Flinthills opened the day with a dominant showing against Altoona Midway, as the Mustangs won 25-10, 25-4.
In their second match, the Mustangs faced a 19-7 deficit in the first set, but fought back to win by a score of 25-23. The Mustangs took the second set by a score of 25-17.
In the Semifinals, Remington took Flinthills to three sets, but Flinthills came away with a 25-14 victory in the deciding third set.
The Mustangs were no match for Bluestem in the championship.
“The finals didn’t go so well,” said Flinthills head coach Kent Harms.
“Bluestem is the best team we have played this year. Every part of their game they do very well.”
After a 5-0 finish, Bluestem is now 10-4 on the season.
Flinthills served 91% for the tournament with Janea Totty and Cari Brown not missing a single serve. Cari Brown led the team with 49 kills. Flinthills is now 6-3 on the season and will take a trip to Oxford to take on the Wildcats on Tuesday, Sept. 11
Bluestem will be in action again at home on Sept. 13.
