The Andover Trojans dropped their season-opener at home to Great Bend by a score of 35-12 on Friday night at Andover District Stadium.
The young Trojans struggled ion both sides of the ball in their first game of the season against a solid Great Bend squad.
After a scoreless first quarter, Great Bend’s Koy Brack threw a par of touchdown passes to Alex Schremmer in the second quarter. Andover’s David Kemp nailed field goals from 43 and 54 yards out to make it 14-6 at the half.
Great Bend opened the second half with three unanswered touchdowns to go up 35-6. Andover sophomore quarterback Eli Fahnestock gave the Trojans their only touchdown of the night on a 8-yard run.
Fahnestock finished with 140 yards through the air, and 64 more on the ground. Peyton Henry rushed for 75 yards, and also caught three passes for 49 yards.
The Trojans look to bounce back with a win over another tough opponent this week, as they will travel to Maize South for a showdown with the Mavericks on Friday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m.
