Rosamond "Rosie" Livingston

Obituary

Rosamond “Rosie” Livingston, 96, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on March 11, 2021. She was born February 16, 1925, in El Dorado, KS to Wilbur B. and Anna C. (Pitts) Morris. She graduated from El Dorado High School in 1943, the University of Oklahoma in 1947 with a Bachelor in Education degree, and Emporia State University in 1963 with a Master of Science degree. She taught English, History, and Spanish beginning in 1947 at Eureka high School for two years and then in Denver, CO, for two years. In 1951 she married Marvin Henry Livingston and they moved to California. They had two children before he became ill and permanently hospitalized. Rosie and her children then lived with her parents in El Dorado as a family for many years, and she began teaching at El Dorado Junior High School in the mid 1950s. Shortly after, she was asked to start a library at the school, and she built one during school terms while attending Emporia State during summers until she earned her M.S. in Library Science. It grew to a well-appreciated size, continuing into the move to what became El Dorado Middle School. She was a librarian for over 30 years and loved the many students she helped through the years. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the American Legion Auxiliary.

In retirement, Rosie continued her love of books. She was a member of two Book Clubs, the Wednesday Book Lover’s Club and the Women’s Mutual Benefit Club, Jr. (WMBC, Jr.) book club. She frequented Bradford Memorial Library regularly in El Dorado, and she enjoyed the libraries in Wichita, also. Rosie was a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church in El Dorado and more recently was a member of NewSpring Church in Wichita, KS, since 2003. Rosie so appreciated her many friends and the enjoyable times they spent together. In her final years, her daughter, Susan, was her caretaker in the home, and they enjoyed many short driving trips around El Dorado Reservoir when it became difficult for Rosie to socialize, especially during the COVID crisis, which helped to alleviate feeling shut in.

Besides her daughter Susan Livingston of El Dorado, KS, Rosie is survived by her son, David (Jan) Livingston and grandchildren, Sara and Lesley; niece Kathy (Leighton) Breazeale of Pensacola, FL; nephew Steve (Karen) Morris of Houston, TX; and nephew Jack (Deena) Morris of Warren, TX.

Rosie was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joseph Morris; uncles, Ed Morris, Dee Morris, and Glen Morris; and cousin, Warren Morris.

A memorial celebration service of Rosie’s life will be held at First Baptist Church in El Dorado at 2 pm Thursday, March 18, 2021. Memorials have been established with First Baptist Church missionary fund and with NewSpring Church missionary fund in Wichita, c/o Carlson Colonial Funeral Home in El Dorado, KS.
