Esther Marie Claphan, 74, of Augusta, KS, formerly of Winfield, KS, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2021 in Wichita, KS.
Service 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta, KS. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Highland Park Cemetery, Winfield, KS.
Esther was born in Paola, KS on October 1, 1946, to the late Mary Evelyn (Dunn) and Elbert Harold Woolsey.
She graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1964 and later graduated from cosmetology school in 1984. She was a cosmetologist for many years cutting hair of many friends and family. Esther was also a homemaker, and took pride in keeping a clean house. She was a member of Gold Wing Road Riders Association. Cooking, crafting, and collecting dolls were things that Esther enjoyed doing, but most especially she loved being with her family who she loved dearly.
In 1974 she married Robert W. Claphan. He preceded her in death in 2008. She was also preceded in death by brother, Marvin Woolsey.
She is survived by: daughters, Lou Anne Wright (Doug) of Augusta, KS, and Michele Garris of Bellevue, NE; son, Barry Baker (Dallas Krueger) of Winfield, KS; step daughter, Michelle Gardner (George) of Columbus, OH; sister, Janice Long (Wayne); companion, Ed Pressnell of Augusta, KS; grandchildren, Winona Parris-Miller (Joshua), John Wright (Brittany), Nicole Wright, Matthew Wright, Shanda Garris, Adam Adams (Ashley), Nathan Adams (Katie Kreutzer), Barry Baker, Jr., Thomas Baker; 3 step grandchildren; great grandchildren, Melainey Wright, Mackenzie Wright, Braelyn, Caden, Dawsyn, and Emma Adams, and Ember Garris; several nieces and cousins.
