Sokolosky, Linda K. “Mathson”, passed away on February 6, 2021 at The Center at Waterfront.
Linda was born and raised in Blair, Wisconsin as the youngest of 4 kids on October 26, 1948 to Harry and Mildred “Millie” Mathson. She was a friend to everyone growing up in Blair and graduated from Blair High School in 1966. She also attended Phil Crosby’s Quality College and then married Duane Sokolosky on July 6, 1968. They had a son Shawn in 1969. Linda and Shawn moved to Towanda, Kansas in 1977; living in the same house ever since. Linda knew everybody in Towanda and never knew a stranger when meeting new people. She worked for Excel Corp.(now Cargill) from 1979 to 1993 and then began at the Butler Workforce Center from 1994 to 2007 as a GED examiner. Even while working and being a single mother Linda always made time for Shawn (She was his biggest fan) and his friends; her “boys”; and never missed their sporting events as they grew, even through college and into their forties. She would bring refreshments to their games for the whole team, to care for her boys. Linda’s family grew on August 8, 1992 when Shawn married Deborah. As Shawn’s family grew, she loved her grandchildren and spending time with them and of course bringing them her famous chicken and noodles and brownies. Linda enjoyed being outdoors and in her rose garden before it became too much for her. She was an avid supporter of the Green Bay Packers(attending 2 home games) and basketball, especially KU(even though Shawn went to KSU). She enjoyed her trip with Shawn to Allen Field House and their annual Christmas Eve shopping trip; not to shop but to watch people. Branson and Cracker Barrel were favorites for Linda because they reminded her of home in Wisconsin. On her trips to Wisconsin she loved playing Hand and Foot with her sister-in-law and nieces and nephews. As she got older she had a group of girls that played cards or went to the casino together and these became much enjoyed times.
Linda is survived by her son Shawn Sokolosy(Deb); brothers Leslie Mathson(Marlene) and Keith Mathson(Penny); grandchildren Lauren, Drew, Zach and Chris; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Millie and a sister Sally.
