Lees Summit, MO - Ruby Louise Widener, 97, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at John Knox Care Center in Lees Summit, Missouri.
Ruby was born on Monday, November 27, 1922 in Derby, Kansas to Charles L. and Minnie (Christen) Landon. She graduated from Rose Hill High School in 1940, working various jobs thereafter, including Cessna aircraft factory in Wichita. Ruby married Elbert R. Widener on November 11, 1943 in Wichita. He served in Europe during WWII. After Elbert’s return, they made their home in Augusta. Ruby worked part-time at a local drug store and grocery store, while her husband was employed at Beech Aircraft in Wichita. They were married for 44 years until Elbert’s death in 1989. They raised two daughters and one son. For Ruby, her family was everything, a lifelong devotion of loving and caring. Ruby was an avid TV watcher, especially CNN, golf tournaments (Tiger Woods) and Royals baseball. She always wished that she had learned how to play golf. Ruby is survived by her son Robert Widener (Linda) of Raytown, MO; daughters Barbara DeWolfe (Scottie) of Dothan, AL and Joyce Widener of Kansas City, MO; grandson Landon Goucher of Dothan, AL.; her sister Margie Wilson of San Antonio, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
Ruby is preceded in death by her husband Elbert R. Widener, her father Charles Landon and her mother Minnie Landon, and her sisters Gladys Williams and Virginia Williams.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 13th from 1:00-2:00p.m. and her Funeral Service will follow at 2:00p.m.at Dunsford Funeral Chapel in Augusta.
