Norton Eugene (Gene) Shannon, age 78, Of Cassoday.
Gene was born March 9, 1942 at home in Geneseo, KS. Gene was the son of Kenneth and Wilma (Speer) Shannon. He attended school at Geneseo High School, graduating May of 1960. He attended Universal Trade School in Omaha, NE, where he learned the mechanic trade. After finishing trade school he returned to Kansas and accepted a job as a mechanic with Elton Lobban Motors in McPherson, KS. It was during this time that he met his wife Deloris Pritchard. They were married March 30, 1963. Gene continued his trade as a mechanic with Coop in Kansas City, MO, then with Farmland in Coffeyville, KS. In November of 1977, together with his wife, they purchased S.D.S. Inc. in El Dorado, KS, which is still operated by the family. Gene was a member of the First Christian Church in El Dorado and a member of the Goldwing Riders Association. Gene love to ride his Goldwing motorcycle and was an original rider of the Cassoday Bike Run. He enjoyed going on long rides cross-country with friends and fellow riders. In his spare time, he worked on the farm and raised cattle.
Gene passed away on July 30, 2020 at his home in Cassoday.
Gene leave behind his wife of 57 years, Deloris of the home in Cassoday, 2 daughters, Geana (James) Scott of Cassoday, Rebecca (Gary) Davenport of El Dorado, 1 son, Steven (Christy) Shannon of El Dorado; nine grandchildren Jacob Davenport, Justine Sandstrom, Ethan, Evan, Erron, Erik Eisenbarth, Zachary, Andrew, Noah Shannon and 4 great grandchildren, Wyatt and Brett Sandstrom, Waylon Eisenbarth, Trinity Shannon; one sister, Irene Georing of McPherson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
His parents precede him in death.
Memorials can be sent in his name to organizations that are dear to Gene: KSDS-Kansas Specialty Dog Service (Service Dogs), Butler County 4-H and Interim Hospice of Wichita.
Friends may gather with the family from 5-7 on Friday, August 7 at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home in El Dorado. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 8 at the First Christian Church of El Dorado. Gene will be laid to rest at Cassoday Cemetery.
