June Merdene (Watkins) Baker

June Merdene (Watkins) Baker, 95, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.

Born to Earl and Stella Watkins in Shamrock, Okla., she was the oldest of three children. Raised in Oklahoma, she attended schools there and Kansas in Ed Dorado and Towanda, later graduating in Charity, Mo. Upon graduating, she went to work at Aerial Parts in Wichita.

June was joined in marriage to Ercel Baker on February 17, 1944, in El Dorado. Ercel was already serving in the Army during World War II. Through this union they were blessed with four children, Joseph Warren, Elaine, Robert "Bob" and Annette. June's work through the years included Valley View Nursing Home and Knutson Manor (now known as Lake Point), as a Med Aide. She enjoyed several different hobbies such as gardening, embroidery, crocheting and sewing, but found much of the joy in life from her grandchildren. Family was her main goal. She loved gathering everyone together, hearing the stories, sharing the laughs and experiencing the love she gave to all.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Ercel Baker; son, Bob Baker; parents Earl and Stella and daughter-in-law Christine Baker. She is survived by son Joseph Baker of El Dorado; Elaine (Daron) Clinesmith of El Dorado and Annette (David) Hearn of Eureka; brother, Robert "Bud" Watkins of Silver Lake and sister Betty Becker of Sedgwick; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law Diane Giacomo of Eufaula, Okla.

I lieu of flowers and donations they can be made to Interium Hospice. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 30, at 2 p.m., at Walnut Valley Cemetery in El Dorado.
