​Kellen Michael Huggins, age 37, of Independence, MO (formerly of El Dorado), passed away on August 22, 2019. Kellen was born on June 26, 1982 at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, IL to Kendra Huggins and Steven Alexander. Kellen’s family were on their way to a family wedding when he decided to make an early appearance.

A memorial service for Kellen will be held on Saturday, Sept 7, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. at the Old Paths Baptist Church, 4621 S. Shrank Dr, Independence, MO. There will be no viewing or graveside services due to cremation. Another memorial service will be held at the El Dorado Senior Center, 210 E. 2nd, El Dorado, KS on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for those who knew Kellen to come and share their memories.

Kellen attended El Dorado schools and was a 2000 graduate of El Dorado High School in El Dorado, KS where he played and lettered in both football and basketball. He was a member of the 1999 basketball team that was runner up in the state 4A championship game. He also attended Butler Community College on a basketball scholarship. At the time of his death he was employed as a security officer by KCU (Kansas City University) in Kansas City, MO.

He is survived by his wife Wendy of the home; his children Darius Huggins, Madison Huggins and Kobe Huggins of El Dorado, KS; step-children Charles Johnson, Aaron Johnson and Taylor Johnson of Independence, MO; his mother Kendra (Huggins) Maurer and her husband Mark of Wichita, KS; brother Michael Reynolds of Wichita, KS; sisters Shelby Huggins of Lawrence, KS and Mariah Reynolds of El Dorado; his niece Evelyn Reynolds and nephew Kayden Reynolds of Overland Park, KS; uncle Kenny Huggins of Wichita, KS; his cousin Shamika Huggins of El Dorado, KS who grew up with him; his grandmother Maudie Huggins of El Dorado, and numerous cousins.

Kellen was preceded in death by his father Steven Alexander, his grandfather Thad Huggins, and his aunt Sondra Liggens.

The family request donations in Kellen’s memory be sent to Kansas Suicide Prevention (www.kansassuicideprevention.org). Golden Gate Funeral and Cremation Services, LLC, Kansas City, MO oversaw creamation.
