Carita F. Cox, 80, passed away on Nov. 2, 2018
Carita F. Cox, 80, formerly of El Dorado,passed away on Nov. 2, 2018, at Midland Hospice in Topeka.
Her family will gather with friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the Carlson Colonial Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, led by Pastor Nathan Slaughter. Burialwill be in Economy Cemetery, El Dorado.
Carita was born on April 25, 1938 in El Dorado, the daughter of Samuel G. and Lolita (Hurlbert) Unger. Carita was a graduate of Leon High School and attended junior college briefly before she married her husband of 61 years, Donald Cox on Dec. 16, 1956 at the Presbyterian Church in El Dorado. She was a homemaker and worked alongside Don in managing their rental properties in El Dorado. She loved growing flowers and was a loyal card sender; always writing encouraging words to the recipients regardless of the occasion. Carita volunteered her time, love, and knowledge of horticulture by designing and tending to gardens at the Bethlehem House and at the First Free Church in Wichita.
Her greatest joy was her family, which includes: her husband Donald of Topeka; son, Brad (Cindy) Cox of Topeka; granddaughter, Hannah (Andrew) Singleton of Topeka; grandson, Sam Cox of Topeka; great grandson, James Singleton; brother, Ralph W. Unger of Bolivar, Mo.; sister in law, Elizabeth Unger of Manhattan; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents and brother Samuel G. Unger preceded her in death.
