Christine “Chris” St. Clare Baker, 71, passed away on Oct. 31, 2018

Christine “Chris” St. Clare Baker, 71, died peacefully at the Lakepoint Nursing Center on Oct. 31, 2018. She was surrounded by family in her final hours.
A Celebration of Life service open to all family and friends will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, at the First Christian Church, 300 W. Central Ave. in El Dorado.
Born to Thomas and Lois Maloney on April 6, 1947 in Great Bend, Chris was the first of three daughters. Her family moved to El Dorado soon after her first birthday. She attended St. John’s Catholic School and both El Dorado Junior High and El Dorado High School before taking courses at Butler County Community College. She spent her life in El Dorado, raising her family with her husband, Warren.
Chris worked at Mid-Continent Federal Savings and Loan after high school until starting a family, when she chose to stay at home when her boys were young. She later took on a variety of positions within the USD 490 school district, often following her boys as they moved from Jefferson Elementary to El Dorado Middle School and High School to help make sure they “stayed out of trouble”. Her position as a paraprofessional with the middle school special education department was very special to her as she found great joy in helping others make the very best of their lives. She later found work with the ARC of Butler County, supporting many of their community activities. In her retirement years, Chris volunteered to be a home advocate for elderly community members. In short, she spent a lifetime helping others.
In her spare time, Chris enjoyed chatting with friends during a Pepsi break or working on a knitting or sewing project at home.
Chris spent the final 10 years of her life battling the effects of Alzheimer’s disease. Her family is very grateful to the many caregivers that provided support to her over the years, including the personal care providers that visited her home in El Dorado, the staff at Gunnison Valley Health Senior Care Center and the staff of Lakepoint Nursing Center.
Chris was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Lois Maloney of El Dorado.
She is survived by: two sisters, Kathy Hall of Overland Park, and Coleen Brown of Phoenix, Ariz.; her husband, Warren of El Dorado; her sons and their families, Justin and Penny Baker of Kingwood, Texas and their children Ashlyn, Braden and Bryce; Wade and Nichole Baker of Gunnison, Colo., and their children Jackson, Hayden and Ian.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ARC of Butler County ( or the Alzheimer’s Association (
