Bonnie “June” Slater, 91, of El Dorado, passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 18, 2018.
Private services will be held.
June was born on Nov. 25, 1926 in Neodesha, the daughter of Charles andVerna Opal (Housley) Osburn. She attended school and graduated from Fredonia High School. Soon after graduation, June moved to Wichita to attend stenographer’s school and went to work in the office for McKesson’s. Next to her office was the stockroom, and it was there she met a young man - just home from the Army - who would eventually become her husband. She took a ride on Russell Slater’s Harley Davidson motorcycle, and the rest is history. June and Russell were married on Jan. 1, 1949 at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Wichita.
She enjoyed many hobbies throughout the years, including drawing and painting, sewing, quilting, working in her flower garden, and had a great love for reading, roses and her home and family. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Piecemaker’s Quilts Group at the church.
June’s loving family includes: her husband of 69 years, Russell E. Slater of El Dorado; children, Kathie (Kevin) Monroe of El Dorado, Wayne (Diane) Slater of Snohomish, Wash., Keith (Cheryl) Slater of Furley, Kan., Julie (Bret) Mosiman of Whitewater, Lori (Philip) Erasmus of Nardin, Okla.,and Alan Slater of Wichita; grandchildren Lyndsee Stover, Stefanie (Kyle) Rix, Emily (Steve) Campbell, Ethan Slater, Jackie (Tremayne) Reese, Karen (Ryan) Henning, Andy ( Lindsay) Slater, Cort (Adrian Sustaita) Mosiman, Ellen Mosiman, Addie (Caleb) Entz, Megan Berry (fiancée Daniel Schapaugh) and Dylan Berry; great grandchildren,Berklee, Brenden, Maycee, Jackson, Eli, Sadie, Madelyn, Owen, Crosby and Savannah; siblings, Thenie (Syl) Posch of Lawrence and Nancy (Yog) Sehgal of Arlington, Texas; sister-in-law, Billie Osburn of Newton; brother-in-law, Leon Eldredge of Oklahoma; many nieces and nephews.
