Right at School is going to offer after school programs in 11 different schools in the El Dorado, Circle and Augusta school districts.
The for profit company out of Chicago is partnering with the three districts for the after school program. The three districts are the first in Kansas to partner for the services of Right At School. The program is for students from Kindergarten to Sixth grade.
Right At School is licensed through the Kansas Department of Health and Environment as an after school program.
“We provide the services for the parent,” Right At School Area Manager Crissanne Thompson said. “It’s basically after school day care but it’s also an enriching experience.”
Students vary from those needing after school child care to students needing something to do during the after school hours.
“It’s social emotional development and piece of mind for families and is very fitness based,” Thompson said.
The founder of Right At School, Mark Rothschild, Ph.D, wanted to make after school programs more about enrichment than day care.
“We have a very structured curriculum and schedule that allows flexibilty for the kids but also gives our educators a frame work in which to run the program.,” Thompson said. “Our lesson plans are developed within the company and they are distributed to the teachers.”
There is some room for changes within the curriculum structure.
“They can tweak it because we want to be local, but it’s not a lot of prep work in the staff,” Thompson said. “All the games we come up with are tested.”
Right At School was contacted by El Dorado Public Schools Superintendent wanted to implement the program after seeing them in action in Chicago.
Right At School has a mix of programs between urban and rural areas. States that use Right At School currently are Oklahoma, Texas, California, Illinois, Arizona, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania and internationally in Canada.
The program begins when school starts in August. To register for Right at School visit https://rightatschool.com/.
