Ramon N. Parker, 86, passed away on Jan. 1, 2018

Ramon N. Parker, age 86, passed away Monday afternoon, Jan. 1, 2018, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade, Kan.
He was born May 31, 1931 in rural Pratt County, Kan., the son of Orval B. and Ermal (Tillery) Parker. As a young boy he attended school in Antrim and Byers, graduating from Byers High School. After his graduation, he moved to Hugoton, Kan., and began working for Parker Brothers GMC. He was a member of the Kansas National Guard for six years. He later joined the United States Army, serving for two years in the 5th Armored Division. Upon his discharge, he began working for Northern Natural Gas in Hugoton for several years.  He later returned to Iuka and began his farming career.
He was a member of the Iuka United Methodist Church, served as a Pratt County Commissioner for 12 years, served on the South Central Telephone Association Board of Directors for 30 years, was a Boy Scouts of America troop leader, a board member of the Iuka Co-Op, coached little league baseball and was a founding member of the Skyline T-Bird Booster Club.  He enjoyed farming, collecting farm toys and GI Joes, was a fan of all sports and spending time with his family and friends.
On April 5, 1953, he married Rita Chloe Miller at Hugoton, Kan. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Bob Parker and wife Barbara of rural Meade, B.D. Parker and wife Joyce of El Dorado, Kan.; a brother, Bill Parker and wife Deanna of Cunningham, Kan.; and a sister, Wanda Hager Thompson and husband Earl of Medicine Lodge, Kan.; four grandchildren, Beau Parker and wife Blake, Baylor Parker and wife Abi, Levi Parker and Kate Parker; and three great-grandchildren, Kamryn, Knox and Kolbi.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Pat, Dwane and Robert D. Parker; and a sister, Orvaleen Pritchett Post.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at the Iuka United Methodist Church. Cremation has taken place. Inurment will follow the service in the Iuka Cemetery, Iuka.
The family would welcome memorials to the Pratt County Historical Society, Iuka United Methodist Church or the Iuka Volunteer Fire Department in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
