MCPHERSON — Following a search and chase, two people were arrested after allegedly stealing a motor home while a third suspect remains at large.


McPherson police recovered the 2020 Newmar Kountry Star Motor Home on Thursday.


On Sunday, the McPherson Police Department received a report regarding the theft of a 2020 Newmar Kountry Star Motor Home, valued at $285,000, from rental storage in the 1800 block of N. Main Street in McPherson. Through investigation, officers determined the motor home was stolen Oct. 3. Officers identified three suspects involved in the theft.


At 10:21 a.m. Oct. 7, McPherson police officers attempted to stop two of the suspects in a vehicle near the intersection of Centennial Drive and Northview Road, but the driver refused to stop. McPherson police officers and McPherson County sheriff’s deputies pursued the vehicle in McPherson County. Officers lost sight of the vehicle for a short time, and then found the vehicle unoccupied in the 2300 block of 12th Avenue. Kansas Highway Patrol troopers and K-9 units, along with officers from the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, assisted with locating and arresting the two suspects.


Boyd Hatfield and Sierra Machnicki were both booked into the McPherson County Jail in connection with theft of a vehicle valued at more than $100,000. Hatfield was also charged with distribution of opiates, burglary, fleeing and eluding police, driving while suspended and reckless driving. Machnicki was also arrested in connection with distribution of opiates.
