Through Labor Day, Sept. 7, the El Dorado Police Department will join local and sate police agencies in Kansas for a crackdown aimed at removing drunk and impaired drivers from the streets.

"During the upcoming You Drink. You Drive. You Lose. Campaign, there will be one officer assigned each day to conduct only traffic enforcement," said Curtis E. Zieman, Chief of Police for the El Dorado Police Department. "While the emphasis for this campaign is DUI, the assigned officers will also be on the lookout for Seat belt, Child Safety Restraint, Speeding and Texting while driving violations"

In other words, buckle up and be careful.

According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, in 2018 one person was killed in a drunk driving crash every 50 minutes in the United States. Driving after consuming alcohol or any other potentially impairing substance is a choice you make.

"Driving Under the Influence of alcohol or drugs is extremely dangerous and has causes many deaths and serious injuries each year throughout the country," Zieman said.

According to KDOT, the statewide campaign exists to encourage drivers to have a sober driver lined up before drinking and check medications for driving warnings. According to KDOT, an increasing number of DUI arrests are occurring during daytime hours due to the side effects of prescription drugs.
