Monday was an exciting day in North Main Park of El Dorado — one of the last big steps of creating a new playground was started.

Concrete foundations were poured, with the final play surface to come once concrete has been able to cure.

Another layer, one with bounce and give underfoot, will be put in place in about 10 days after concrete has cured.

The playground has drawn excitement to the park.

"It is exciting," said Kristina Traina with the City of El Dorado. "People see the bright colors. We are excited too."

Traina said the project was funded with excess sales tax collected in the city.

"We have all helped pay for this," Traina said. "... Right now, let the guys do their jobs. We want it to cure correctly or we’ll have some issues."

Weather permitting, the project will be complete by the end of August.
