Suspects flee after attempted traffic stop, hit-and-run

PITTSBURG — A police officer attempted a traffic stop early Tuesday afternoon in the area of the 2100 block of North Broadway for an observed registration violation, but the vehicle did not stop, according to a Pittsburg Police Department press release, instead fleeing south on Broadway and also failing to stop for a red light at 20th and Broadway.

The suspect vehicle, a 1996 Cadillac DeVille, was then struck by a Chevy Silverado pickup truck traveling westbound on 20th Street and, according to police, subsequently struck a tree in the Walgreens parking lot in the 1900 block of North Broadway before continuing southbound and eventually stopping in the 100 block of East 17th Street.

Three occupants then exited the suspect vehicle, according to police, and began to flee on foot. One of the passengers was caught shortly thereafter, but was later released.

McPherson brings library to homes

MCPHERSON — The McPherson Public Library remains closed to the public. For those needing something to ready, the library has a solution.

They will come to you.

“With some restrictions being eased but the conditions still not favorable to opening up the library, we wanted to do something to get library materials into the hands of our patrons,” said library director Steve Read. “This is like a combination of Amazon and pizza delivery.”

As a way to safely provide books and other library materials to the community during the time the library is closed, the McPherson Public Library is introducing ReadStreet. This service is a partnership between the library and Midway Motors and is designed to deliver library books, audiobooks, DVDs and music CDs to the homes of community members.

Patrons select items from the library’s online catalog and are notified about a delivery time. The delivery is contactless, with library staff leaving the items in a bag on the front porch and ringing the doorbell. All items will have been quarantined before they are delivered.

Midway Motors is providing a transport vehicle for the program.
