Today's installment of Throwback Thursday takes us to the unit block of North Main Street on the west side.

The property addresses of 11-13-15-17 North Main were first developed by two brothers, Ed and Dr. Samuel Sidlinger in 1886. Ed had a drug store there and Dr. Sam had offices on the second floor. The Fair Stationery & School Supplies was located there in 1898 and later it became a department store.

In the 1930s, these properties housed Foeltzer Cigar Co., a Duckwall's Store and Percy Hardware. In the 1940s and 1950s it was a few drug stores and Western Auto. In 1955, the current building was constructed to house J.C. Penney's. The second photo shows the Penney's store in 1971. It was there from 1955 to 1984 when they moved to Hutchinson Mall. From 1990 to 1998, it was a Dollar General Store. In 2000, Brad and Kathy Palmer purchased the building and remodeled it for The Sleep Shoppe & Furniture Gallery.

On May 1, 2018, Kevin and Susan Rule purchased the business. The business today at 11-17 N. Main is still owned by the Rules, with the Palmers still owning the property.
