Herman Junior Miller, 93, of Cassoday passed away on May 3, 2019 at Homestead of Augusta.

Herman’s life began on December 1, 1925 in Haven.  He is the son of Herman Henry Carl and Marie (Robinson) Miller.  

Herman is a 1943 graduate of Cassoday High School. He joined the Army Air Corps right after school was over and served his country for the next three years during World War II. He was united in marriage to Ruth Simmons on October 3, 1948 in El Dorado.   

Herman worked for over 30 years as a pipefitter at Skelly, Getty and Texaco refinery in El Dorado. He was a member of the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union. Herman was a member of the Cassoday United Methodist Church. He served as the municipal judge and city councilman in Cassoday and served on the Cassoday School Board before consolidation.  

Herman enjoyed fishing and vegetable gardening, feeding squirrels in the parks and sitting in the garage cracking walnuts for the squirrels. He loved his cats and many were buried in special places over the years. He loved summertime family outings with all of the extended family camping nearly every weekend at South Fork or Fall River.

By far, his greatest joy was his family which includes his wife of 70 years Ruth Miller; children Pam (James Lacey) Miller of Cassoday, Pat (Greg) Perkins of Augusta, and Mike (Julie) Miller of Cassoday; grandchildren Carrie (Darren) Robertson, Conroy Miller, Dawn (Roger) Gadberry, Oliver (Alyssa) Perkins and Avery Perkins; great-grandchildren Kylea, Jordan, Barrett, Rogena, Easton and Marley; and his sister Ramona Unruh of Derby.  

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Harry Miller and sister Ruth Williams and great grandson D’Angelo. Herman received loving care from the staff at Homestead Assisted Living and Memory Care and make many friends over his five years as a resident. His family gathered with friends on Wednesday (May 22, 2019)at the Carlson Colonial Funeral Home.  A funeral service was held on Thursday (May 23, 2019) at the Cassoday Community Church.
