Alleged misuse of funds may go back to 2014
Charges have been brought against former Towanda Municipal Court and Utility Clerk Ricky Allen Voisin, who was employed for the city from 1998 until approximately two years ago.
Butler County District Court documents show Voisin was charged last week for crimes including theft of $186,930.26 from the city, misuse of public funds, a computer crime, and making false information.
The former utility clerk is alleged to have fraudulently adjusted daily deposits and utility accounts. Court documents say the crimes happened from about Jan. 1, 2014 through Aug. 10, 2016.
The Butler County Times-Gazette reported in August of 2016 that an investigation of Towanda’s city court clerk for an alleged misuse of public funds had begun.
Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet reported at that time that a full scale budgetary audit of the Towanda public employee in question was being conducted and it would be a lengthy process in sifting through all billing records and bank accounts that the clerk had been in charge of officiating.
No trial date has been set for the charges leveled last week in District Court.
