Judith Napier of El Dorado scratched off $100,000 top prize

TOPEKA, KAN. – It can be quite an emotional moment when a player wins a large lottery prize.

“I screamed and then I cried,” said Judith Napier of El Dorado describing her demeanor yesterday when she scratched off a $100,000 top prize on a $100,000 Crossword instant ticket.

“Oh yes,” she said. “I’m a screamer. When I win at anything, everybody knows it!”

Napier won her enormous cash prize by uncovering 14 words on her $10 Crossword ticket.  She said she had to chuckle when two of the words she uncovered in the puzzle – “expect” and “hopeful” – describe so well her attitude in playing the lottery.

“I am always hopeful I will win and I always expect to win!” said a beaming Napier.

That optimism seems to be working pretty well for her. Napier’s $100,000 prize is the second top prize she’s won on a Crossword ticket.  She also won $20,000 on a $2 Bonus Crossword ticket in 2006.

It’s no wonder the Kansas Lottery’s Crossword tickets are Napier’s favorites to play. Her husband brought her home a whole handful of Crossword tickets yesterday – two $10 tickets, two $5 tickets and four $2 tickets.

“He buys Powerball tickets, and I play Crosswords,” she said. “We take turns buying the tickets and we split the winnings.”

Napier and her husband Hubert are both retired. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last year. They haven’t decided yet how they will spend their prize money.

“Last time I won big we had to buy a new furnace,” she said. “This time we’ll probably spend some of it on a trip.”

The lucky ticket was purchased at Dillons 29, located at 700 N. Main Street in El Dorado.

There are still four $100,000 top prizes remaining in the $100,000 Crossword game, as well as hundreds of thousands of other cash prizes.

Players are invited to submit all their winning and non-winning tickets in the Kansas Lottery PlayOn® Players Loyalty program to earn points for drawing entries and a chance to win cash and other prizes!
