St. James Catholic School kindergarten students had a chance to enjoy lunch with their grandparents during the annual Grandparent’s Day celebration last Friday.
Grandparent’s Day was established in 1978 by President Jimmy Carter as a day to celebrate and honor grandparents and their contributions to their families. The day falls on the first Sunday after Labor Day.
Richard Guy, Elementary Principal, said it was always fun to welcome St. James grandparents to the school for lunch. “I always enjoy grandparents coming in to our building to pick up children for appointments, have lunch, drop off lunches, attend Mass and other duties grandparents do for their children and grandchildren. Each year I see more grandparents coming to eat lunch with their grandchildren.”
Mr. Guy stated that he enjoyed the smiling faces of the children when their grandparents are at school with them doing activities on this special day. “It’s always nice to have the grandparents here at St. James Catholic School and give them an opportunity to see where their grandchildren go every day.”
Other activities grandparents enjoyed with their grandchildren were playing Bingo, enjoying popcorn and taking pictures while wearing different kinds of hats.
