Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital (SBAMH) Auxiliary hosted their biennial Inspirations & Indulgences Extravaganza on April 27, 2019.  Funds from the event were earmarked to benefit SBAMH Breastfeeding Clinic & Education.  Auxiliary members began planning for the event in late 2018 with a goal of improving on the success of the inaugural 2017 event.  One of the upgrades was a larger venue, compliments of Butler Community College (BCC) and their Hubbard Welcome Center.
Spring colors of green and yellow greeted the guests as they entered the lobby.  Guests began their day shopping at various stations around the room.  SBAMH Auxiliary Sewing Saints displayed handmade items from dish towels to entire quilts and many items in between.  The Auxiliary Bake Shop enticed the guests to indulge their sweet tooth with a couple of cookies, meringue-topped pies, or delightfully decorated cakes.  Guests were encouraged to purchase raffle tickets for about 30 wreaths and/or barn quilts created by Auxiliary members.  Each guest received a free entry for ‘Indulgent Door Prizes,’ all donated by local merchants.  A silent auction for donated quilts was a new activity for this event and the group was overwhelmed with the donations received.  Fourteen handmade quilts in various sizes earned $2,260 from the auction.
The tables suggested spring with yellow and green mesh circling a centerpiece of succulents and a hurricane candle, created by Prairie Blossom of El Dorado.  A catered lunch of Garden Salad, Chicken Penne with Sundried Tomatoes, and Fruit Pie was served at noon as guests were welcomed by Emcee Chase Locke, SBAMH Foundation Executive Director.  He introduced special guests and shared an inspirational note about each.
An inspirational fashion show, compliments of Robin’s of El Dorado and Boutique 1631 of Augusta, shared not only what’s new in fashion but also what inspires the models.  Many of the models were Auxilians which made it even more fun.  SBAMH Guest Services Manager Karen Hockett joined Chase on stage to draw for ‘Indulgent Door Prizes’ donated by local merchants during the fashion show intermission.  Karen also directed each table to auction off their centerpiece, and one table earned $100 for theirs.
The event ended with drawings for the wreaths and barn quilts.  Winners of the silent quilt auction were also announced.  Early estimates show proceeds of $6,700.  It was an exciting and rewarding day, and the SBAMH Auxiliary would like to thank local businesses who donated to the event, quilting groups and individuals for creating lovely quilts, SBA Cares Volunteers for helping in various capacities, and the guests for attending and supporting the fundraiser.
