Community-police awareness event
National Night Out is observed annually on the first Tuesday in August and the Douglass community has been observing the special night since 2013.
A DARE officer and the DARE car were at the event, along with Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet. Members of the Butler County Animal Response Team (BuCART) and their disaster trailer were on site to share information on the safety, survival and welfare of any animal affected by natural and man-made disasters in our area. Fred the Preparedness Dog, mascot for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, also made a return visit to the event.
Residents also enjoyed a free swim at the Douglass City Swimming Pool.
El Dorado also held a National Night Out event Tuesday night at East Park.
