Tentative plans revealed for celebration later this year
Plans are underway for Augusta’s big 150th birthday this year. A committee comprised of representatives from local clubs and organizations has been meeting for several months to tackle the planning for the community party.
The sesquicentennial will be held during Augusta’s Homecoming Week, Sept. 24 -30, and includes birthday events, along with the usual homecoming schedule; parade, community pep rally, tailgate party, and Hometown Hero award.
Events that will run the entire week include a Grasshopper Hunt, commemorative coin and button sale and other Augusta themed items for sale, historic home tour app, and a coloring contest for elementary students.
Other special events include: a costume contest, a beard contest, old fashioned games, antique car show, carriage rides, disc golf tournament, a quilt show, a pie eating contest, food trucks, an old fashioned church service, an Augusta documentary, and a time capsule placement.
