POV is a Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) public television series which features independent nonfiction films. POV is the longest-running showcase on television for independent documentary films and has garnered both critical and industry acclaim over its almost 30 years. POV's films have a strong first-person, social-issue focus. This summer, Bradford Memorial Library will host two showings of these filmes. On June 13, we will show the film "56 Up." In 1964, a group of British 7-year-olds were interviewed about their lives and dreams in a groundbreaking television documentary, Seven Up. Since then, in one of the greatest projects in television history, renowned director Michael Apted has returned to film the same subjects every seven years, tracking their ups and downs. Then, on July 18, will be "My Love, Don't Cross that River," in which 89-year-old Kang Gye-Yeol and 98-year-old Jo Byeong-Man are married and have lived together for 76 years. While Kang and Jo spend every day like a newlywed couple, they now must face the reality of their aging romance. We are excited to bring to you these films that will give you a look into another's point of view, and teach you about different walks of life.
While you are at the library, join in our summer reading activities for all ages. For adults and teens, we will have weekly prize drawings for people who check out books, and a Summer Reading Challenge for you. See you at the library!
