Tuesday, March 20
Are you free over lunch on Tuesday, March 20, from noon to 1 p.m.? Bring your lunch and enjoy a unique musical experience with Wichita Grand Opera singer, Hugo Castillo.
Hugo, born of both Mexican and Chilean descent, moved from Mexico to Texas at a very young age. Both of Hugo’s parents were engaged in the arts of singing and acting, and inspired Hugo and his interest in performing on the stage during his younger years.
As an adult, Hugo moved to Wichita to study opera, theater, and vocal performance at Wichita State University. During this time, he sang with WSU's top choral groups, performed in numerous operas, and was a notable singer in WSU's Latin jazz and percussion ensembles. Hugo participated in several concerts, and in recording an educational CD titled "Influences of Western Africa in Latin Music" along with percussion legends; Ignacio Berroa, Michael Spiro, and Janet Cramer.
Hugo states that two of his most notable instructors/mentors are the great opera voice professor, Dr. George Gibson, and the distinguished thespian and acting coach, Mary Jane Teal.
Hugo performs opera, theater, and music theater throughout Kansas, including the prestigious Wichita Grand Opera, where he is a resident artist. Hugo has a passion for singing sacred and gospel music. He can be found regularly performing throughout the region. In addition to his singing career, Hugo serves on the board of The Forum Theater Company, is a member of the Board of Directors for Wichita Arts Council, and an avid supporter of young talented actors, singers, and dancers in the area.
Water, coffee, tea, and sweet treats provided. Join us and get away from the grind for an hour!
