Veterans honored at Celebration of Freedom

El Dorado’s 20th Annual Celebration of Freedom brought residents together this weekend to celebrate those who have served our country in the Armed Forces.
Saturday kicked off with a biscuit and gravy breakfast at the VFW.
This  year’s parade marshal was Bill Mason, who helped lead the parade, along with the Color Guard and the Commanding General’s wagon team from Fort Riley.
Following the parade, a hot dog feed and inspection of military equipment at Gordy Park.  On Saturday afternoon, a WWII Battle Reenactment and Weapons Demonstration was held at the Kansas Oil Museum.
The El Dorado Elks Lodge#1407 hosted a chicken and noodle dinner on Sunday, and A Musical Salute to Our Veterans was held at the high school.
Last night was the Spotlight on Youth, which featured essays and patriotic music by the El Dorado Middle School Band.  An ice cream social followed the program.
On Saturday, Nov. 11, a special Salute to Veterans Program will be held at 11 a.m., at the Civic Center, featuring special guest speaker Staff Sgt. James D. Denison.
