Flinthills softball trying to build something special with season
WINFIELD, Kansas — Most leagues in the state of Kansas do not host a traditional tournament where you have a league tournament champion. For the South Central Border league, they do it in most sports and it can make for some thrilling competition. Not every school competes in the championship games due to the number of schools in the SCBL (12)… unless you’re a girl at Flinthills.
STATE TENNIS
Over the weekend, all your favorite tennis programs took place in the state regionals around the area and everyone is sending someone to the state tournament this season. In all 13 players from Butler County will ascend upon either Arkansas City for Class 5A or Pratt for Class 4A.
Augusta baseball shines in sweep
EL DORADO, Kansas — The last few weeks haven’t been really good to the Augusta Orioles. They were upset and blown out by a subpar Andale squad and then they were swept in tough outings against McPherson and Buhler. Their only real positive outcomes since the no-hitter against Mulvane was the sweep over Clearwater, a team they should beat. They had lost six of their last eight after eight of their first 10.
El Dorado softball finds balance in thrilling split
EL DORADO, Kansas – Augusta staged a six-run rally in the top of the seventh to erase a 12-7 Wildcats lead and pull out a 13-12 squeaker in the first game Monday night. But El Dorado – a team that has suffered in softball for many years and has found itself frequently at or near the bottom of the AVCTL standings – is proving that this year’s team is a different breed of Wildcat.
