
Walnuts’ extra-base hits help celebrate the Fourth
EL DORADO, Kansas – It might be said that the Fourth of July is a holiday specifically tailored to El Dorado.From the Celebration of Freedom festival in the fall to the number of parades at various times of the year, patriotism is definitely alive and well.Take that expression of patriotism and blend it with baseball, another intrinsic part of El Dorado, which has its own Hall of Fame adjacent to McDonald Stadium.So, for the Fourth of July this year, the El Dorado Walnuts – who earlier in the summer season had two active-duty West Point cadets on the roster and used them both on a night when the team paid tribute to the military and first responders – had a game on the holiday for the third consecutive year.But this time, a new wrinkle was added in that the exhibition was against a traveling team of U.S.
