IRVING, Texas – For the 21st time in the 28-year history of the coaches’ men’s basketball preseason Big 12 poll, Kansas has been selected as the favorite to win the conference as the league announced preseason awards Thursday.Individually, Kansas graduate center Hunter Dickinson is the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year for the second-consecutive season becoming the first player in conference history to earn the accolade twice.

Sporting KC drops home finale to LAFC

Sporting Kansas City (8-18-7, 31 points) fell 3-0 to LAFC (17-8-7, 58 points) on Saturday in the club’s 2024 home finale at Children’s Mercy Park.Goalkeeper Tim Melia saved his 18th career penalty kick in the first half—second most in MLS regular season history—but LAFC secured three road points behind goals from David Martinez, Cristian Olivera and Aaron Long to solidify second place in the Western Conference.

Wichita State women picked 12th in AAC Preseason Coaches’ PollWSU ATHLETICS

The American Athletic Conference, less than a month away from the 2024-25 season, announced the women’s basketball preseason standings, ranking Wichita State 12th out of 13 teams.The AAC preseason coaches’ poll was released Friday ahead of the conference’s annual Basketball Media Days on Sunday and Monday, where second-year head coach Terry Nooner, graduate guard Taylor Jameson and sophomore guard Salese Blow will be representing the Shockers in Dallas, Texas.Fans can tune in to ESPN+ at 12:20 p.m.

Andover impresses, but comes up short against undefeated Eisenhower

GODDARD -- As Andover has had just a few things go wrong in their two losses, which are a combined margin of loss of 11, it had an opportunity at its hands on Friday.With undefeated Eisenhower with a good offense, led by three-star recruit quarterback Derek Morgan, the Trojans wanted to show that they were better than their 2-2 record and could defeat the Tigers.Andover held the league multiple times and competed till the end, but things just did not go in the Trojans’ way in a 21-17 road loss at Goddard High Football Stadium.“Our guys are disappointed they lost the game,” coach Jamie Cruce said.
