Andover's Tayton Klein won the 5A long jump and Andover Central's Ashton Barkdull won the 5A pole vault to open Day 1 of the 2022 KSHSAA state track and field state meet on Friday afternoon.
Some state track medal winners received a special treat in addition to their medals Friday.
Ashton Barkdull clapped his hands to get the crowd ready and a crowd that had all eyes locked on him started clapping with him, to give him the energy.

The Butler Grizzlies will head to Yuma, Arizona as the No. 6 seed next week as they return to the NJCAA National Softball Tournament for the sixth consecutive season. The Grizzlies will take on the No. 11 seed Central Florida, winners of the South Atlantic A District, on Tuesday, May 24th at 4:00 p.m. at Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex.
