AUGUSTA, Kansas— The Cannons clinched the first half title in the Kansas Collegiate League Baseball standings on Tuesday night. They did it behind strong pitching an early base-running. After jumping out 3-0 on the Park City Rangers, the Cannons held on for the 3-1 win.
In a surprising and seismic shift in college athletics, the Big Ten voted Thursday to add Southern California and UCLA as conference members beginning in 2024. The expansion to 16 teams will happen after the Pac-12’s current media rights contracts with Fox and ESPN expire and make the Big Ten the first conference to stretch from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

AUGUSTA – The Kansas Cannons made quite a splash a year ago, capturing the season-ending SummerBall Showdown championship. Only three players returned this year from that team, yet the Cannons have clinched at least a tie for the league’s first-half title after a 4-2 victory Sunday night over the Wellington Heat – the Cannons’ 12th straight win, which gives them a two-game lead over the second-place Kansas Curve.
EL DORADO – In about three weeks, the El Dorado Walnuts have gone from somewhat listless to a team that could make a legitimate run at the KCLB’s second-half title. The Kansas Curve came into McDonald Stadium on June 3 and handed the Walnuts an 11-2 pounding, limiting El Dorado to just four hits.
