Kennith Edwin Pierce

Kennith Edwin Pierce, 89, of Augusta, KS, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at home in Augusta, KS. Visitation Sunday 2 p.m. until service at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2022, at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta, KS. A private graveside will take place at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield, KS at a later date. Kennith was born in El Dorado, Kansas on November 22, 1932, to the late Lois Marie (Davis) and John Kenneth Pierce. He was a proud veteran of the U. S. Army. After 39 years of employment, he retired from Beechcraft in 1988. Kennith enjoyed gardening and spent many hours in his woodworking shop making and sharing his craftsmanship with family and friends. Rex L. Shoemaker

Rex L. Shoemaker, 70, formerly of Batesville, AR passed away on September 13, 2022. Rex spent his career with Entergy in Newark, where he was a master of all things maintenance. He was especially gifted at welding and could fix anything. While with Entergy, Rex also spent time on the company’s emergency response team servicing hurricane power outages. A Memorial Service for Rex took place on Saturday, September 17, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Wichita, KS. Rex is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Burl and Tevis Shoemaker. He is survived by the love of his life, Jeanne Shoemaker, whom he met in 7th grade math class at El Dorado Junior High School in El Dorado, Ks. Jeanne and Rex reconnected at their 45th class reunion and were later married on September 16, 2016, in Wichita, KS. The couple resided in Valley Center, KS. Elsie Eleanor George, 96, of Augusta, KS, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022 at her home. Service 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 14, 2022, at Christ Lutheran Church, Augusta, KS. Burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta, KS. Elsie was born in Alma, KS on September 8, 1926, to the late Anna (Banka) and Carl Thowe. She graduated college from Kansas State University. She was a city clerk for the City of Augusta for 37 years and had also been a teacher. Elsie was an active and faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church in Augusta for 73 years, and was also a member of Soroptimist - Member of Tabitha. Larry Dixon

Larry Dixon, 76, passed away on November 1, 2022 at his home with his family by his side. Visitation and rosary was held at 6 p.m., on Thursday, November 3, 2022 and Memorial Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 4, 2022, both at St. John the Evangelist’s Catholic Church, 302 N. Denver, El Dorado with Father John Lanzrath presiding. Interment occured at Calvary Cemetery in Wichita.

John Kevin Reeves, 49 , passed away on October 20, 2022. Kevin was born on July 12, 1973 in Saint Louis Missouri, to Thomas D Reeves and Barbara J (Hawkins) Reeves. Kevin was the youngest of seven children, He enjoyed working on and building computers. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends like Sam Hood and Jessica Clark. Kevin is survived by his mother, Barbara; siblings-Kathy (Rex) Lampson of El Dorado, Kansas; Billy (Sue) Reeves of Columbia; South Carolina, Jack (Diane) Reeves of West Columbia, South Carolina; Lisa Reeves of Darien, Connecticut; Bobby Reeves of Lexington, South Carolina; Randy (Theresa) Reeves of Gaston, South Carolina. Kevin had many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great niece and nephews. Kevin was preceded in death by his father Thomas and his grand parents.

James Thomas Carriger

James Thomas Carriger, 74, died on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at his home in Pryor, Okla. with his family at his bedside. James was born on March 27, 1948, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado, Kan. and lived at Haverhill and Augusta, Kan. through high school. He graduated from Augusta High School in the class of 1967. He was born to Paul and Irene (Lowrance) Carriger and was the youngest of four children. His siblings included brothers Bob and Richard, and sister Peggy. James enlisted in the United States Navy in the summer of 1967, following in the footsteps of his father who was a WWII submariner and his two brothers who served in the surface Navy. James attended Engineman school upon completion of boot camp. He then volunteered for submarine school at New London, Conn. His first shipboard assignment was the submarine Atule USS-403, homeported in Key West, Fla. The Atule was commissioned in 1943 and was the last diesel powered submarine in the Atlantic Fleet and was decommissioned in 1969. He was then transferred to the nuclear powered ballistic missile submarine Von Stueben SSBN 632, homeported in Charleston, S.C. That tour was followed by duty on the Daniel Boone SSBN 629, also homeported in Charleston. He made several patrols on the three submarines. In 1977, James left the Navy and relocated his family to Pryor, Okla. and went to work for Air Products Corp. as a plant operator. He retired in 2013 after 37 years with the company. Retirement years were busy with bass fishing and family. On May 10, 1968 James married Glenda Sue Wray in Augusta, Kan. Three children were born to this marriage; Sherrie, Shawn, and Brandi. James and Glenda later divorced. James is survived by: his three children, Sheri McClure, Shawn Carriger, and Brandi McWhirt, all of Pryor, Okla.; sister, Peggy Beene and husband Lee of Mesa, Ariz., brother, Bob Carriger and wife Mary Jane of Broken Arrow, Okla.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
