Patrick Paske

AUGUSTA - Patrick David Paske, 72, Augusta, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Kansas Medical Center in Andover. Visitation is 1-3:30 p.m. Sunday at Headley Funeral Chapel and memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 13, 2021, at Augusta United Methodist Church, Augusta. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Toronto Cemetery in Toronto. Patrick was born in Chanute, Kansas on February 18, 1949, to the late Lavonne (Daniel) and William Paske. He retired after 30 years of military service as a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. He taught, coached and served as an administrator at several Kansas high schools and middle schools over 51 years. Since 2004, he was a science teacher at Derby High School and spent several earlier years in Augusta and Eureka schools. Patrick coached basketball, football, golf and track during his career. On July 14, 1968, he married Bonnie (Ferguson) in Toronto, Kansas. She survives. He is also survived by sons, Scott and wife Susan of Wichita, and Drew and wife Kaysie of Andover; sister, Lisa Stockebrand of Halstead; brothers in law Rick Ferguson and wife Nanette, and Bob Swartz and wife Lola; sisters in law Mae Oxford, Connie Vance, and Cindy Ostrosky; grandchildren Trent, Mallory, Jillian and Josie; and numerous nieces and nephews. Charles “Bud” Thornton, Jr.

AUGUSTA - Charles “Bud” Thornton, Jr., 86, Augusta, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2021. Charles was born in Augusta, Kansas on August 26, 1935, to the late Ferrol Ensley and Charles Thornton, Sr. He retired as a letter carrier at USPS. In 1953, he married Mary Ann Payton. To this union 2 children, Randy and Rhonda were born. In 1986 he married Sherri Potter and gained a step-son, Michael Potter. He enjoyed doing stained glass and jigsaw puzzles. Bud was an avid Augusta Oriole fan and loved the KU Jayhawks. He was very proud of being a 50 gallon blood donor for the Red Cross. Survivors include wife, Sherri; step-son, Mike Potter and wife Amy; grandsons Daron Potter and Ryan Hagebusch; granddaughters Mallory Potter, Erica Hourigan and Aileen Thornton. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Don; son, Randy; daughter, Rhonda; and grandson Chris Hagebusch. Private burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery. Linda Marie Weaver

Linda Marie Weaver, of Augusta, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2021 at the age of 74. Linda was born on October 14, 1947 in Neodesha, Kansas to Thomas and Flossie (Nichols) Weaver. She earned a Master’s Degree in Education in Pittsburg which she used to become a Special Education teacher for 28 years. After retiring from teaching, she went on to work for St. Catherine’s Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was a member of KNEA, GCEA, Special Olympics, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Park Avenue Baptist Church (formerly Grace Baptist Church) in El Dorado, Kansas. The Special Olympics were very dear to her heart. She spent a lot of her time coaching and training the kids for Special Olympics and taking them around to various state competitions. Linda was very active in her community. She was one of the Pink Ladies for Susan B Allen hospital, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and taught a Back to Balance class with the home health clinic.

Joyce Marie (Taylor) Pippig

Joyce Marie (Taylor) Pippig was born on January 12, 1933, in Oil Hill, Kansas, the third of four children to Ira C. and Nellie (Richardson) Taylor. She passed away at Homestead Assisted Living El Dorado on November 29, 2021, with family present. Joyce lived in the El Dorado area all her life. In Oil Hill, she and her brothers enjoyed playing outside and entertained themselves with games of softball and kick the can. She attended Oil Hill School where she was involved in basketball, track and softball. At El Dorado High School, she was a member of the Pep Club and graduated in 1951. On April 9, 1953, Joyce married Gerald E. (Jerry) Pippig at the First United Methodist Church of El Dorado. They were married nearly 68 years before Jerry passed away on March 21, 2021. Joyce was a retired bookkeeper and receptionist, and she also assisted Jerry in their business, Fulmer Studio of El Dorado, for many years. She attended the First Christian Church of El Dorado and was a member of the Red Hat Kickers for 18 years. She especially enjoyed the Kickers’ Style Show and the fun part she played in the show. Joyce and Jerry enjoyed traveling the country and spending time with good friends. They tried to take a trip at least once a year to visit state and national parks where they enjoyed hiking. Joyce’s favorite place was Yosemite, but she also enjoyed Yellowstone, the Smoky Mountains, the Texas coast, Rocky Mountain National Park, and Osage Hills State Park in Oklahoma. Joyce will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and friend. She was always up for good fun and laughs with friends and family. When things would get a little hectic, her favorite phrase would be “Oh, what a rat race!” which could always get a giggle from her kids and grandkids. Joyce is survived by two daughters, Sandra Blackburn (Rod) and Karen McLaughlin (Troy), and a son, Michael Pippig (Jan) all of El Dorado. Surviving grandchildren include Danny Konert, Ryan Pippig (Halie), Addison McLaughlin, Derek Pippig, Skylar Blackburn, Rachel McLaughlin and three great-grandchildren. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Clifford, Leland and Larry Taylor, and a son-in-law, Larry Konert. Joyce requested no public service.
