Maxine Brixey

AUGUSTA - Eris Maxine Brixey, 96, of Augusta, KS, passed away Sunday, December 19, 2021, in Wichita, Kansas. Service 11 a.m. Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta, KS. Maxine was born in Douglas County, Missouri on May 2, 1925, to the late Nona Ann (Philpott) and Floyd Swearengin. She was a graduate of Emporia State University. Maxine taught school for 42 years, teaching in rural schools in Douglas County, Missouri; Towanda, and Augusta, Kansas. She was a member of KNEA, Retired teachers organization, E.S. A. Sorority, Eastern Star, and a long-time member of First Christian Church, Augusta. In 1946, she married Elwood Brixey in Exeter, Missouri. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Wanda McKnight and Bonita Hurst. Maxine is survived by: daughter, Eris Ann Mouton and husband Rene of Kingwood, Tex.; 2 step grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Garfield 1st Grade classes, 1053 Osage St, Augusta, KS 67010.

Robert Lawrence “Robo” Lane

DERBY - LANE, ROBERT LAWRENCE“ROBO”, 80, passed away at his residence at Glen Carr House in Derby on December 18, 2021. Robert was born on January 23, 1941 in rural Cowley County to Albert Lawrence“A.L.” and Marie {Hill} Lane. The family lived in Haverhill, Council Grove and Wilsey when Robert was young where. He spent a lot of time working and hunting and fishing which were passions. After graduating from Wilsey High School, Robo moved to Wichita in 1960 where he met Vera O’Neal at Pawnee Ave Church of God, and they were later married there in 1966. In 1974, they moved their family of 4 to Benton and lived there until 2020. Robo was very active in his community, especially the Benton Lions Club, and served on the Benton City Council for 13 years. In 1987, Robo and Vera helped start Hope Community Church in Andover, KS and were very active in it as well, including Vera helping start the Bullfrogs and Butterflies preschool. After 25+ years with Boeing, Robo retired to spend his time working on outdoor and car projects, attending sporting events of his grandchildren and traveling. As a mechanically inclined person Robo’s hobbies included rebuilding several cars, performing nearly all his own maintenance, built several smokers for himself and others. He was always willing to help anybody else fix anything they brought to him as well. Later in life he bought a Ford Cobra kit car and enjoyed attending car shows and was very active in the El Dorodders Car Club in El Dorado. Robo is survived by his wife Vera; his children Toby Lane(Carla) and Travis Lane(Stephanie); grandchildren Eli, Parker and Mason; sister Cathryn and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Marie and a brother Richard. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Hope Community Church, 1831 E. 21st St. N., Andover. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., also at Hope Community Church with Pastor Steve Weldon officiating. Burial will follow in Benton Cemetery, Benton, KS. Blake Hall

EL DORADO - Blake Hall of El Dorado, KS born December 16th, 1998. Blake was born in Dalton, GA. Blake died unexpectedly December 8th, 2021. He enjoyed playing video games with his best friend Luke Nelson. He enjoyed his job at Burger King. Blake was a big fan of Spider-Man and was really looking forward to going to the new movie with his best friend. Blake is survived by his father Michael Hall; maternal grandmother, Sue Stephenson; brother, Brice Stephenson; sister Brittany Hall; adopted aunt Mary Bourbon; cousin Scott Stephenson; others he called a cousin as they grew up close: Sierra Boone, Samantha Bourbon, and Stephen Bourbon and many other family and friends. AUGUSTA - Phoebe Cae Mackay, 22, of Augusta, KS, passed away Friday, December 3, 2021, in Wichita. Visitation Tuesday, December 21, 2021, 3 p.m. until service at 4 p.m., at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta, KS. Phoebe was born in Wichita, Kansas on January 10, 1999, to Elizabeth Lee (Houser) and James Mackay. She worked as a clerk at Casey’s in Augusta. She enjoyed hanging out with her family and friends. On April 27, 2021, she married Tanner Clary and he survives her. She is also survived by er parents, Elizabeth Mackay and James Mackay and wife, Tiffany; daughter, Kalyn Mackay brother, Jacob Mackay; grandparents, Ronnie and Malinda Mackay, Mary Grabanski, and Craig Houser; great grandmothers, Lorena Hinckley and Nola White; aunts and uncles, Jenifer Houser, Rachael and Kelley McKay, Nancy and Scott Carr, Michelle MacKay, Gary Houser and Daniel and Megan Mackay; and several other family members. Samuel “Sam” Binter

EL DORADO - Samuel “Sam” Binter’s life began on February 8, 1935 in Wichita, Kansas; the son of Clarence and Mary E. (Schreck) Binter. Sam graduated from El Dorado High School in 1953. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1955- 57. Sam worked hard for his family at Skelly, Getty and Texaco refinery before retiring as a lab analyst. He had a love of tennis like no other. He helped found the BCCC Tennis Association and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Sam faithfully attended St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in El Dorado his entire life. His greatest joy was his family which includes his daughter, Shelley (Joe) Weaver of El Dorado and son, David Binter of Wichita. Sam passed away on December 9, 2021 at his home in El Dorado. He is preceded in death by his sister, Sue and his parents. Friends may gather with the family from 5-7pm on Tuesday, December 14 at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. A rosary will be held on Wednesday, December 15 at 9:30am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10am. Adrienne Massey

EL DORADO - Adrienne’s life began on January 16, 1955 in Concordia, KS; the daughter of A. Keith and Aunita (Hinkley) Anderson. Adrienne believed in education, earning her undergraduate at Kansas State University and earned her Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology at Ft. Hays State University. She was united in marriage to Stanley R. Massey on June 10, 1978 in Belleville, Kansas. Adrienne was quirky and had a beautiful spirit. Using her degree, Adrienne worked for Terra Mara and Mid Cap working as a program director and writing grants. In her later years, she poured her energy into the Susan B. Allen Ladies Auxiliary, Sewing Saints, the Quilt Guild and was a co-leader of Good Grief. She loved crafting—quilting, sewing and knitting. Adrienne loved searching garage sales and estate sales for treasures for herself and her family. Her family includes her daughter, Jessica (Brandon) Epp of Waco, TX; granddaughter Aria; sister Annette Dwyer of Flower Mound, TX and brother-in-law Bradley Massey of Tulsa, OK. Adrienne passed away on December 8, 2021 in Flower Mound, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband Stanley; daughter Megan, brother-in-laws Mitchell Massey and Don Dwyer and her parents. Friends may gather with the family from 5-7pm on Tuesday, December 14 at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 15 at 1pm at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. Adrienne will be laid to rest at Seltzer Cemetery in Wichita. Ike Thiessen

POTWIN - Ike was born on January 6, 1943, the son of Luther and Pauline Campbell in Warsaw, Indiana. He was adopted by Edgar and Rosalie (Meschberger) Thiessen when he was 13 years old. He graduated from Berean Academy Class of 1961 and attended Grace Bible Institute. It was at Grace that Ike met Donna McCullough, whom he married on June 6, 1964 - they were married for 31 years. Ike first worked as a farm laborer, then worked at Brainerd Feed Supply, Whitewater Mill and retired from the State of Kansas as a GMRT2. In his leisure time Ike worked hard and took training to be able to serve as a Sheriff’s reserve officer which he enjoyed immensely. Ike was also an active member of the Butler County Emergency Preparedness Division 1, where he spent hours storm spotting whenever or wherever needed - Ike was always willing to help others. Family was very important to Ike and he enjoyed spending time with them especially in the outdoors as he enjoyed nature so very much. Ike enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren in whatever activities they chose to do. Music was also a big part of Ike’s life; he enjoyed sitting and listening to“his music” and he also enjoyed watching his favorite movies. In his younger days Ike enjoyed hunting and fishing and also played a lot of softball and basketball.

Nathaniel “Nate” David Bowman

AUGUSTA, KANSAS - Nathaniel “Nate” David Bowman was born in Wichita, Kansas on March 25, 2003, to Marcie (Siemens) and Jeremy Bowman. He is survived by his parents; sisters, Brianna Evans and husband Cody; Allison Cole and husband Josiah and Delaney Bowman; grandparents Vickie and Harold Siemens and Vicki Bowman; great grandmother, Eula Mc- Coskey; great grandfather, Fred Shanklin; uncles & aunts, Jason and Molly Siemens, Scott and Erika Siemens, Chris and Doris Bowman and Jessica and Drew Byers; nieces and nephews, Addison Scott, Arya Evans, and Beckett, Baker and Boston Cole; and numerous other family members. Nate passed away Saturday, December 11, 2021 in Wichita, Kansas. A private family graveside service will be at Glencoe Cemetery, rural Beaumont, Kansas.
