Barbara Terrones

EL DORADO - Barbara’s life began on July 26, 1957 in Wellington, KS; the daughter of Frank and Lois Hiatt. She was united in marriage to Fred Terrones and loved her family dearly. Barbara always made everyone feel welcome, making her home as inviting as possible. She loved crafting and learning new crafts. Barbara was very creative and loved her art. Barbara was firm in her faith as a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Her greatest joy was her family, which includes her children, Cynthia (Brian) Thomas, Michelle Terrones, and Christina (Jonathan) Cooper; half children, Tricia Terrones, Fred Terrones, Rene Terrones, and Richard Terrones; grandchildren, Candice (with great granddaughter on the way), Arienette, Summer, Marissa, Caleb and Jordan; siblings, Karin Ferryman, Linda Trehal and Cherie Fisher as well as several nieces and nephews.

AUGUSTA - Kathy Darlene Latimer, 70, of Augusta, KS, passed away Monday, January 10, 2022 in Wichita. Visitation 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2022 at Headley Funeral Chapel. Service 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2022, at GracePointe Church, Augusta, KS. Burial will follow at Kuster Cemetery Augusta, KS. Kathy was born in El Dorado, KS on September 21, 1951, to the late Kathryn (Tabor) and Robert “Jack” Dowell. She was a cosmetologist and owned Halo Hair for over 30 years. She was married to Marvin Everett Latimer for 48 years. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Lloyd, Floyd, Ronald, and Donald Dowell; sister, Judith Sharp; step daughter, Patty Jo Brendegard and her husband Richard. She is survived by: son, Earl Robert “Bob” Latimer and wife Shawna; daughter, Stephanie Latimer and husband Peter Hanson; step daughters, Penny McCormac and her husband, the late Dr. Mervin McCormac, Jacqueline George and husband William, Pamela Tucker and husband Roger; step son, Marvin Latimer, Jr. and wife Marion; 21 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren.

WICHITA - Sondra Kay Pearson, 79, of Wichita, KS, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2022. Visitation 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Graveside service 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 17, 2022, at West Liberty Cemetery, Hammond, KS. Sondra was born in Ft. Scott, KS on July 21, 1942, to the late Wilma Lena (Brown) and T L Williams. She was a homemaker for most of her life. On July 22, 1961 she married Roger F. Pearson in Dodge City, KS. He preceded her in death in 2005. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Ronda Renee Pearson; brother, Ricky Dale Williams. She is survived by: sons, Mark Pearson and wife Yvonne of Olathe, KS, Clayton Pearson of Wichita, KS; brother, Terry Lyle Williams and wife Donna of Halstead, KS. Craig S. Johnson

EL DORADO - Craig S. Johnson, of El Dorado, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at the age of 67. Craig was born on March 18, 1954 in El Dorado, Kansas to Nolan and Anna (Baum) Johnson. Craig was well loved by all that knew him and his “live for today” attitude . He was well-known by many to be the BEST hairdresser in town for 45 plus years. Craig was a very humble man who always shared a smile and a laugh, he would give anybody anything he possibly could when they needed a helping hand. He spent a lot of time with his friends at the VFW and will be deeply missed by all.

Ronald “Ron” Dwayne Peters

LATHAM - Ronald “Ron” Dwayne Peters, of Latham, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at the age of 73. Ron was born on July 9, 1948 in Halstead, Kansas to Melvin and Wilma (Laubhan) Peters. Ron lived life to the fullest. He followed in his father’s footsteps and began farming as a child. He was proud to be a farmer and farmed up until he decided to go to the police academy. After working in Harvey County for about a year and graduating from the academy, Ron went on to be an investigator and later on the Undersheriff for Butler County Sheriff’s Office. He worked under Sheriff Sid Blakeman and was very honored to do so. He worked there from 1970 until 1982. Ron was also very proud to be a business owner. He owned and operated Ron’s Locksmith Shop for 37 years and he owned and operated Keighley Barn for 32 years. He continued in civil service working for the Latham Township Fire Department as a trustee and then as a clerk. He wasn’t going to continue working, but he had so many write-in votes that he couldn’t walk away from his community. Ron was also a member of the Masonic Lodge Patmos 97 in El Dorado, Kansas. When Ron wasn’t working, he was spending time with his loving family. He married the love of his life, Faye Wert, on January 21, 1967. Together they shared a wonderful life raising their kids and then later was blessed with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ron was a very loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who ever knew him.

Richard E. Smith Sr.

EL DORADO - Richard E. Smith Sr.’s life began on December 24, 1940 in Topeka, KS; the son of Clyde and Alma (Johnson) Smith. Richard was a graduate of Topeka High School in 1958. He proudly served his country in the 101st Rifle Company with the United States Marine Corps and earned an honorable discharge after a six-year service. Richard married Pamela K. (Fraker) Smith on December 31, 1965 in Topeka, then moved to El Dorado in 1970 where he was the president of Kansas Aluminum, Inc. for 36 years. He worked hard for his family and was always providing for those around him. He enjoyed discussing sports, politics, playing poker, and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Richard was opinionated, honest and ethical. His family includes his children, Richard Smith Jr. of El Dorado, Randall E. Smith of El Dorado; grandchildren Richard Smith III of Ft. Collins, CO, John R. Sheldahl of Phoenix, Arizona; nephews John Endacott, Brooks Endacott, both of Pensacola, FL; adopted granddaughter Rachel Wolecki of Perth, Scotland; and forever friend Pamela K. Smith of El Dorado. Richard passed away on January 2, 2022 in Durant, OK. He is preceded in death by his sister Roberta A. Endacott-Graf and his parents. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 15 at 10:30 am at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Monday, January 17 at 10:30 am at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka.
