Josephine Ann Norton

Josephine Ann Norton, age 73, passed away on April 3rd 2022, in Wichita, Ks. Josephine is survived by her two daughters Pamela Brady and Amy Highmoor. Her 5 grandchildren and 9 greatgrandchildren. She is preceded in death by her mother Edith Norton, Father Harold Norton, and beloved husband Jackey Brown. Josephine was born on February 25,1949 in Alhany, California, to parents Edith and Herold Norton. She was a very loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Aside from family and friends she really loved her pets. She raised many animals through the years. She continued to work with children or animals throughout her life. Josephine was a great care taker and a loving mother. Her family and friends will always remember her as a smiling, loving person. A celebration of life is scheduled for 11am Saturday, April 9th 2022. At the mormon church located at 120 S. Main St. in Eldorado, KS, with a reception to follow the service. Jeromy Green will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Josephine’s life.

Tana R. Fender

Tana R. Fender 94, passed away on April 1st, 2022. She was born October 31st, 1927 to Bob and Onie Bishop in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, registered nurse and licensed social worker who was loved by all who knew her and will be dearly missed.

Janell Mahaffey Surber

Janell Lynne Mahaffey Surber was born in Albion, Nebraska on September 10, 1947, to parents Shirley Wallick and Forest Robb. She grew up in Augusta, Kansas and graduated from Augusta High School in 1965. She completed cosmetology school and met future husband, Vernie Surber while he competed in various skeet shooting competitions at the gun club managed by her stepfather, Ronald H. Mahaffey. Janell and Vernie were married in Augusta on August 12, 1967. Janell and Vernie were blessed with two children, Shelley and Mike. She and her family moved to Camp Verde, Arizona in June of 1986. Wilfredo “Willy” Blanco-Diaz

Wilfredo “Willy” Blanco-Diaz’s life began on October 31, 1955 in Las Villa, Santa Clara, Cuba; the son of Jose and Angela (Diaz) Blanco. Willy worked hard for his family in construction and eventually retired from the City of El Dorado as a mechanic’s assistant. He was united in marriage to Carol Howard on January 7, 1985 in El Dorado. Willy enjoyed fishing and playing dominoes in his spare time. He enjoyed riding on his dune buggy and loved to tell stories. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Willy’s family includes his wife, Carol of El Dorado; children Wilfredo (Austin Letts) Blanco-Diaz of Joplin, MO; Miguel (Sarah) Blanco-Diaz of El Dorado, Ester Blanco of Cuba; grandchildren Elizabeth, Addison, Miguel, and Henry; and 9 siblings. Willy passed away on March 31, 2022 at his home in El Dorado. He is preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and both parents. Friends may gather with the family from 5-7pm on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. Linda E. Reynolds

Linda E. Reynolds, 74, of Douglass, KS, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2022 at home. Memorial service 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2022, at First Christian Church, 303 E 4th St., Douglass, KS. Burial will be at Douglass Cemetery, Douglass, KS. Linda was born in Wichita, KS on March 13, 1948, to the late Leota “Tody” (Cooley) and Robert O. Newman. She worked as a bank teller at Corner Bank/RCB. Linda’s joy was spending time with her grandchildren. On March 4, 1967 she married Danny Reynolds at First Christian Church, Douglass, KS and he survives her. She is also survived by: sons, Robert Reynolds and wife Kristen, and Darin Reynolds and wife Judy; grandchildren, Tyler Reynolds (Hayley), Hannah Reynolds, Matthew Reynolds; great grandchildren, Aubree and Paisley Reynolds; step grandchildren, Brooklyn Toland and Hayley McGee, and Parker Toland. She was preceded in death by her sister, Diana “Deedee” Valentine, and brother, Michael Newman. Lloyd M. Scott

Lloyd M. Scott, 90, was born September 7, 1931 in El Dorado, KS the son of Stephen L. and Helen E. (Garabrandt) Scott. He graduated from El Dorado High School with the class of 1950. After graduation, he entered the US Army, serving in Alaska. He was a member of the 50 Below, after maneuvers on Kodiak Island and achieving the rank of Corporal. Lloyd received an Honorable Discharge in 1953. On May 29, 1953, he married the love of his life, Ruth J. Higgins, in Miami, Oklahoma. Lloyd’s work career started with the railroad extra gang, moving to the oil field as a driller for White & Ellis. He then went to work for Union Tank Car Company as a welder, where he retired after thirty-five plus years. After retirement, he worked for McIntosh Welding, one of his favorite jobs. Lloyd was known as a hard worker, a craftsman and could build or fix about anything. He and Ruth helped so many family and friends, but none more than his son and family. His hobbies included wood working, which he and Ruth spent many hours in the shop creating some beautiful items that are still being used and enjoyed today. Lloyd loved sports, both playing and watchingespecially watching his son, granddaughter and great-grandkids. He and Ruth rarely missed a game. He was an avid KU Basketball and KC Chiefs fan. Lloyd is survived by son Rick (Terri); granddaughter Darci Awtrey; great-grandkids: Reagan and Grady Scanlon; nephews: Frank Williams, Bill Higgins, Steven Higgins and Don Callaway; nieces Helen Verrino, Jeanie Alfaro and Wilma Higgins. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth; parents, Stephen and Helen Scott; stepmother, Clara Winslow Scott; sister Ethel Williams and her husband Marion “Bud Williams, in-laws Jim and Hattie Higgins, brother-in-law Leroy Higgins and wife Doris; sister-in-law Emma Finey and her husband Monta, and nephew, Jim Higgins. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Good Shepherd Hospice or to the Midwest Braves Baseball Organization. Linda Marie Weaver

Linda Marie Weaver, of Augusta, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2021 at the age of 74. Linda was born on October 14, 1947 in Neodesha, Kansas to Thomas and Flossie (Nichols) Weaver. She earned a Master’s Degree in Education in Pittsburg which she used to become a Special Education teacher for 28 years. After retiring from teaching, she went on to work for St. Catherine’s Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was a member of KNEA, GCEA, Special Olympics, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Park Avenue Baptist Church (formerly Grace Baptist Church) in El Dorado, Kansas. The Special Olympics were very dear to her heart. She spent a lot of her time coaching and training the kids for Special Olympics and taking them around to various state competitions. Linda was very active in her community. She was one of the Pink Ladies for Susan B Allen hospital, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and taught a Back to Balance class with the home health clinic.

Isidro Alvarez

Isidro’s life began on May 15, 1954 in Camagüey, Cuba; the son of Segundo and Emiliana (Bebert) Alvarez. He was united in marriage to Grace Doreen Martin on February 14, 1980. Isidro worked hard for his family as a heavy equipment operator, retiring from CDH Construction in El Dorado. He was an early riser and enjoyed a morning coffee and cookie. Isidro loved to watch the Kansas City Chiefs and was a huge fan. He loved to go camping and spend time outdoors, fishing and being with nature. He loved to tend to his goats and horses. Isidro loved to spend time with his grandchildren and sneaking lottery tickets whenever he could. His greatest joy was his family which includes his wife, Grace; children Phillip Dill, Wendy (Denzil) Davis, Dori (Chris) Bowlin, Lila Alvarez, Emi Alvarez and Isidro Alvarez, Jr; 16 grandchildren, 1 greatgrandchild and several siblings. Isidro passed away on March 24, 2022 at his home in El Dorado. He is preceded in death by his parents. Friends may gather with the family from 5-7pm on Tuesday, March 29 at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, March 30 at 10am at Sunset Lawns Cemetery in El Dorado. Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the American Heart Association.
